Correspondence with Bishop William Rollinson Whittingham, both before and after Howe became bishop, 1871. Subjects include proposed amendments to the Constitution of the Episcopal Church regarding the House of Bishops and trials of clergymen; affairs of the Committee on Psalmody and Hymnody of the Church; and Howe's declining election as Missionary Bishop of Nevada, 1866. William Rollinson Whittingham was born in New York City, N.Y., and graduated from the General Theological Seminary in 1825. He was ordained as an Episcopal priest in 1829 and became rector of Saint Mark's Church in Orange, N.J.
